I love New York. Really. Coolest City in the whole world. Okay, I haven't been everywhere, but, well, it can't really get better.
If you plan on going to New York, here are my favorite links. Online, but also offline.
If you don't have a plan about Manhattan yet, why don't you first get a map. Here are some online:

- My favourite map is still the subway map. It's always handy ('cause you'll get it for free at any Subway Station and you'll have plenty of them) and it really shows four Boroughs (not Staten Island, though) without you acting like a foolish tourist 'cause you're trying to unfold and hold a huge map. Well, and as you might have guessed, there is one online *g*
- Here's a map of Manhattan
- Yet another one Neigbourhoods in Manhatten
- A Map of Lower Manhattan
- Map of Brooklyn
- Maps of the Bronx
- Want to know about NYPD boroughs?
- ...and if you still want more maps... go to http://www.uvm.edu/~ctar/map.html, they have them listed all, I believe
What you might want to see are some great pictures. Well, here are some Spy Cams in New York, with really great views, always depending on the weather, of course. Personally, I think that the views are best during daylight, there is some kind of blurr with the lights...(You might consider not to take a look at these great views, if you only have 16 colors or a 9600 modem...)
Here are three different views from the 77th floor of the Empire State Building
And here's how it looks from the 34th Floor of the Empire State Building
A live picture from the 77th floor of the New York World Trade Center
A live view from Hoboken to Downtown Manhattan
Manhatten Transfer shows a view of Fifth Avenue from the southeast corner of 45th Street
Brooklyn Bridge (you'll need Netscape 3.0 or Explorer 3.0 for this view)
Wanna know who's ice skating, who's dining, or how the X-mas tree looks? Find out by looking at the Rockefeller Center Cam
Manhattan's Upper West Side - Columbus Ave and 72nd Street
What to do while in New York?
- Go all the way up onEmpire State Building open from 9:30 a.m. until midnight every day. Admission is $4.50 for adults and $2.50 for children under 12 and seniors.
- Or up to the crown of theStatue of Liberty and then spend some time on Ellis Island
- Or go up the the top of the World Trade Center
- Central Park
- Or go to Museums
How about Fine Arts
Or do you prefer other Museums
- Even if you don't want to read, check out the New York Public Library.
- Of course, you have to go to the Broadway - The League of American Theatres and Producers
- and if you want to see what's playing now... Check out the newest Village Voice
- like movies? If you don't nessesarily have to see the newest ones, go to the Cineplex Odeon Worldwide Cinema where admission is only 3$ (instead of 8.50$ everywhere else) on 50th St.; between 8th & 9th St. (Movieline: (212)505-CINE)
- check out the NY Movie link
- and the Anthology Film Archives show ...different movies (officially: " permanent home where the growing number of new independent/avantgarde films can be stores and also serves as a screening space.")
- so does the Filmforum - movie house for independent film and repertory programming.
- and there are almost always film festivals...
Go eat. Everybody's gotta eat. Even in New York. Of course, the best stuff you'll get on the street, or in Deli's. Make sure you'll try a Bagel with Cream Cheese. The biggest bagels you'll probably get at Eat a Bagel, they have a couple locations thougout Manhattan. My favourite? Everything with Cream Cheese. Yumm. For lunch you'll always find some great fast food, much better than Mac and Co, on the streets.
And for the coffee inbetween? Try the next deli, but if you want coffee or espresso, or capucino, try Starbucks, or News Café (Time and place to check your e-mails) or other chains like that. Kinda expensive, but you'll taste the difference.
- Menu.net has a variety of Restaurants and Bars in Manhattan, and a good search page and then has menues of those restaurants...
- Cuisine.net big difference???
- Cyber Dine
- Do you smoke? Then you might be interested in Dr. Puff - Where to smoke and eat in NYC
- or take a look at Lighten Up, another guide, even for Cigar Smokers
Well, after a while, you might get tired, so here's how you can find out about Hotels or appartments for rent:
How to find an appartment in NYC? Good question - I was not very successfull last summer, but here are some online possibilities to look for an apartment or roommate:
